Hoca Info - De Nederlandse Camera

HOCA info
Op 21 mei 1949 werd de firma HOCA opgericht in Utrecht door de heer Wilhelm Melai (geboren in 1912 te Roermond). HOCA werd ingeschreven bij de kamer van koophandel onder de branche Metaal Industrie met als doel "het vervaardigen van boxcamera's". Na een half jaar werd de doelstelling bijgesteld met de volgende tekst "en optische speelgoederen als: projectors, film-viewers , kijkers e.d.".

Wilhelm Melai was tevens eigenaar van de groothandel OPTOY te Utrecht (zie bijgaande foto). Het bedrijf HOCA heeft met dezelfde body een camera, projector en viewer gebouwd. Deels metaal en deels bakeliet. De transformator van de projector werd ingekocht bij Nedap te Groenlo (dit bedrijf uit 1921 bestaat nog steeds). Medio 1950 is het faillisement aangevraagd voor zowel HOCA als de groothandel OPTOY. Wilhelm Melai is daarna geëmigreerd naar Australië.     

De naam HOCA is zeer waarschijnlijk afgeleid van HOllandse CAmera.

On May 21 1949, the HOCA company was founded in Utrecht by Mr Wilhelm Melai (born in 1912 at Roermond). HOCA was registered at the Chamber of Commerce under the branch Metal Industry with the objective "of making box cameras." After a half year the target was revised with the text "and optical toys like: projectors, film viewers, binoculars etc."

Mr Wilhelm Melai also owned the wholesale OPTOY at Utrecht (see attached photo). The company HOCA designed the same body for building the camera, projector and viewer. Partly metal and partly bakelite. The transformer of the projector was purchased from Nedap at Groenlo (this company from 1921 still exists). In mid-1950, filed for bankruptcy for both HOCA and wholesalers OPTOY. Wilhelm Melai has since emigrated to Australia.

The name HOCA is probably derived from HOllands CAmera (Dutch camera).
