Ivens & Co
Wilhelm Ivens was een fotograaf die in 1867 vanuit Duitsland naar Nederland verhuisde om in Nijmegen een fotohandel te beginnen. Twee jaar later opende hij een eigen fotoatelier aan de Doddendaal in Nijmegen.
Wilhelm heeft zich vooral toegelegd op de portretfotografie. Hij bouwde aan de Houtstraat een goedlopende fotozaak op. Zijn zoon C.A.P. Ivens werd in 1871 geboren. Kees Ivens wilde niet meer zelf fotograferen, maar zijn geld verdienen met het verkopen van fotoartikelen. Hij vestigde in 1894 een ‘Phototechnisch Bureau en Handel in Photographische Artikelen voor H.H. Amateurs’ in het pand Houtstraat 23 op de hoek met de Ganzenheuvel. Na zijn huwelijk met Dora Muskens, dochter van graanhandelaar George Muskens, richtte hij samen met zijn schoonvader de firma ‘Het Nederlandsch Fototechnische Bureau C.A.P. Ivens en Co’ op. Niet lang daarna verhuisde hij naar een pand in de Van Berchenstraat. Vanuit dit pand groeide een netwerk van fotozaken onder de naam CAPI met vestigingen in Nijmegen, Amsterdam, Groningen en Den Haag.

Wilhelm Ivens was a photographer who moved from Germany to the Netherlands in 1867 to start a photo business in Nijmegen. Two years later he opened his own photo studio in the Doddendaal in Nijmegen.
Wilhelm has mainly focused on portrait photography. He built a successful business in the Houtstraat. His son C.A.P. Ivens was born in 1871. Kees Ivens did not became a photographer himself, but earned his money by selling photo products. He established in 1894 the "Photo Technical Bureau and Commerce Photographische Articles for H. H. Amateurs' in the property Houtstraat 23 at the corner with Ganzenheuvel. After his marriage to Dora Muskens, daughter of grain merchant George Muskens, he and his father in the company 'The Netherlands Photo Technical Bureau C.A.P. Ivens and Co 'on. Not long after he moved to a building in the Van Berchenstraat. From this property grew a network of camera shops called CAPI with offices in Nijmegen, Amsterdam, Groningen and The Hague.
